In an epic voyage of experimental archaeology, New Ulm native Stephen Somsen and thirteen others sailed the Hokule’a, a 63-foot Polynesian catamaran, over 2,300 miles from Hawaii to Tahiti without GPS, a compass, charts, or a sextant—using only the sun, moon, stars, and other natural observations.
