Steven Klassen @ The Grand Kabaret!
Steven Klassen spent his early years living with his grandparents and playing spoons along with Grandpa Nick on an old Gibson acoustic. Grandma Alvina played harmonica and frequent visitors stopped by in the evenings to add their instruments or voices to the evenings entertainment. Upon His return from the VIetnam War, in 1968, Steven moved in with a good friend John Goossen who was the bass player for the Epicurian's Band..i.e. Murphy Brothers Band. They lived on 420 Pleasant Street....hmmmmm It really was quite pleasant as the band would practice in the basement and Mankato's finest musicians would stop by and jam. Steven Iearned his first guitar chords during this time and a love for the spirit of 60's rock and roll. Steven plays a 001 Martin Parlor Acoustic guitar accompanied by harmonica. Several years ago Steven published a CD of original songs. Steven writes songs about his grand children, love songs, folk songs, anti-war songs and mystical meditation folk songs. Steven has played gigs in Arizona, San Diego, Switzerland, France, Brooklyn, Wine Cafe in Mankato, Okoboji, Iowa and places forgotten. A memorable gig was played at the Back Fence Bar on Bleeker Street in Greenwhich Village, a frequent haunt of Bob Dylan. Love of music remains the motivation for Steven's ongoing playing of live gigs.
