Local historian George Romano will present “War on the Mississippi” at the Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table on Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the library. The Mississippi River was extremely important to armies during the Civil War; soldiers and supplies could be swiftly transported without as much danger of a rear attack. It was brought entirely under Union control with the Battle of Vicksburg in 1863, which split the Confederacy in half. The Minnesota Valley Civil War Round Table series will take a break for the summer and resume on Tuesday, September 18 at 6:30 p.m. Please call 507-359-8334 for more information.
