“Charles Lindbergh: Triumph, Tragedy and Controversy” with David Jones - CAST Educational Program

Presenter David Jones (“Prohibition: A Grand Misadventure”, October 30) returns to share the story of Charles Lindbergh. Charles Lindbergh was the first aviator to complete a solo transatlantic flight. In May 1927, he successfully flew his plane, Spirit of St. Louis, from New York to Paris. The feat made him an international hero, and he later wrote a Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the experience. In 1932, his 20-month-old baby was kidnapped from the family home. Fueled by Lindbergh’s celebrity, the crime and its aftermath sparked a media frenzy and the first “Trial of the Century.” Lindbergh later became a target for his Nazi ties and isolationist, anti-Semitic views in the lead-up to World War II, though he did contribute to the American war effort after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. His life was filled with tragedy and controversy. Join us to explore the complicated life of a complex man. Hosted by the CAST Senior Center, CAST Educational Programs were developed to reach a wide audience of senior citizens, providing a variety of interesting subjects via in-person presentations and experiences. Scheduled year-round, we host programs at the CAST Senior Center, but also travel to area libraries, museums, places of interest, and other Senior/Community Centers in our area to introduce Seniors to the many program opportunities that are available. Our programs are open to the public and there are no membership dues. Unless noted, the programs are provided free and no preregistration is required. Carpooling is available for out-of-town trips.
